Welcome to Project Flip Blue by Voting Trend

When it comes to elections for president, US Senate, US Representative and governors, it’s easy for candidates to raise money. If candidates are in a “swing district”, the Democratic Party and national organizations will pour tons of money and resources into their races. In a nutshell, these high-profile races are fine when it comes to money.

However, when it comes to those running for State House, Assembly, or Senate, it is much harder. In my 30-plus years in politics, I have found that even candidates in fairly competitive state legislative seats have a hard time trying to get the resources to run a strong campaign. On top of that, because they are state legislative seats, they usually only have a local profile.

These officeholders impact both federal and local politics. They usually draw federal congressional maps and spend federal money, which is then passed down to the local level. These chambers are the lifeline to politics in a state.

These chambers are also where small victories can lead to big victories. When I started in Florida politics, the Democrats dominated the state. But by the end of the 1990s, the Republicans dominated the state with seats that Democrats won eight years earlier. These victories in both the Florida House and Senate led to Republican dominance in the state that has lasted 30 years. It all started with the state legislature.

The goal of Project Flip Blue is to help connect candidates with people from outside of their district and state, and to donate to their campaigns. Each of the districts selected for this project are districts where either the Democrats came close to winning seats, or within 6% in the last election, with them possibly being more competitive after the swings we saw in 2025. Finally, the states that are being targeted are states were either the lower or upper chambers can either flip over to the Democrats, or give the Democrats a cushion, like we saw in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2025.

So please, look at the candidates that are available for each state below and donate to their campaigns. Candidates will only be listed once they have either won their primaries, or are unopposed for the Democratic nomination and the filing deadline has passed. Therefore, not all states are available yet. Voting Trend does not take ANY part of any donation, as direct links to the candidates’ websites are available. Finally, only US citizens can donate to these campaigns.
