I was very impressed by the office of my Congressman, Ted Deutch (D-Boca Raton) who completely unsolicited, emailed me a letter today about an issue I have previously written to him and his predecessor (Congressman Robert Wexler) about. For many years I have contacted my elected officials and the US Department of the Interior in opposition to horse slaughter, an issue I feel very passionately about. This is an issue that is back in the news with the recent revelations by the Guardian about horse-meat making its way to market in the UK.
What was impressive about this letter is that I have not recently contacted Congressman Deutch’s office on this matter. But since I have contacted him in the past and today he took the action detailed in the below letter regarding this issue, I got an instant personalized email, which stands out from the dozens of form emails each of us get everyday from the DNC, FDP and other political entities. The full letter is below.

February 14, 2013Mr. Kartik Krishnaiyer
Dear Mr. Krishnaiyer:
Thank you for contacting my office regarding animal welfare issues in the past. Your views on these issues are important to me, and I wanted to be sure that you are aware of a recent inquiry into the sale of wild horses to a known kill buyer.
Since 2009, more than 1,700 captured mustangs have been sold to a known kill buyer, someone who purchases wild horses from Bureau of Land Management auctions and transports them to Mexico for slaughter. I have joined several of my colleagues in sending the enclosed letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar requesting that he respond to the more than 25,000 Americans who have petitioned the Interior Department for answers about why this has been allowed to happen.
You may view the letter by clicking on the following Link.
Thank you again for your concern for the welfare of animals. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have or anytime I may be of assistance to you. If you would like to be updated on these and other issues, please stop by my website (www.deutch.house.gov) and sign up for my electronic newsletter. I hope you will find these tools to be valuable resources in keeping up with events in Washington and South Florida.
Sincerely,
^
